Echinacea purpurea – Purple Coneflower
A beloved Missouri native, Purple Coneflower, Echinacea purpurea, has daisy-like purple petals that surround a large orange center. Its delightful blossoms continue for most of the summer, creating wonderful displays in the garden and the vase. A tough beauty that is easy to grow in any soil, Purple Coneflower thrives even in the hottest and driest of summers. It prefers full sun to part shade.
With loads of soft pink daisy-like blossoms for months, Purple Coneflower creates fabulous displays for gardens, containers, cut flower bouquets and dried arrangements. Butterflies can’t resist its tasty nectar, and birds love its seeds.
Plant in full sun to light shade in soil that has been amended with organic matter. Although drought tolerant, consistent watering will produce the most flowers. Dead heading spent flowers will encourage more blooming.
