Dicentra – Aurora Fern Leaf Bleeding Heart
From Germany comes Aurora Fern Leaf Bleeding Heart, Dicentra. A superior selection of the of the US native Dicentra eximia, it brings beautiful 1′ mounds of ferny blue-green foliage. In early spring, the plants are adorned with its first dangling flowers held on thin spikes above the foliage. It continues to grace the garden for much longer than the typical white selections, with multitudes of flowers in spring, sporadic blossoms through the summer, and then in the fall prolific flowers. This heat tolerant perennial thrives in moist woodland soils.
Use Aurora Bleeding Heart in woodland, cottage and shady perennial borders. Its ferny foliage adds considerable charm and texture to borders and containers. It makes a delicate garden edge and looks beautiful in pots. You’ll want a pot of Aurora up on a table so you can see up close its intricate, beautiful details. .
Plant in shade to part shade in soil that has been amended with organic matter. Does not like overly dry soils.
