Cotinus Velveteeny Smoke Bush
Showy foliage and unique flower plumes put Velveteen Smoke Bush, Cotinus in a league of its own. Almost perfectly round leaves of showy purple cover this petite shrub. Growing only 4′ tall and wide, about the half the size of its siblings, Velveteeny packs a wallop of color in a petite package. In late spring plumes of airy flowers look like puffs of smoke floating above the showy foliage. In fall the purple leaves turn rich red. Deer resistant and tolerant of dry clay soils. This petite sized nativar is a perfect backdrop shrubs for green or yellow leafed perennials or as a dark accent with other vibrant colored shrubs.
Plant Velveteeny Smoke Bush in sunny spots with well drained soil. When planting amend the soil with compost and add a starter fertilizer like Biotone Starter Plus.
