Bergenia Spring Fling Pig Squeak
With intense pink flowers that nearly smother its dark foliage, Spring Fling Pig Squeak, Bergenia, demands all attention. Even at a distance its luminescent flowers stand out. It features large rosettes of leathery, oval, cabbage-like leaves that form a thick, slowly-spreading clump of glossy evergreen foliage. In fall and winter its foliage turns satiny purple-black, making it a gorgeous backdrop for its shocking magenta pink flowers. Its foliage grows to 12″ tall and wide. Its large flower panicles appear on 24″ tall stout stalks in spring.
Bergenia are reliable evergreen perennials that are deer and rabbit resistant. Their leaves and flowers are wonderful in floral arrangements. Use Bergenia in shade and woodland gardens, as a thick ground cover, as edging, or in containers. It makes a spectacular show in mass plantings.
Plant in shade to part shade in soil that has been amended with organic matter.
