Bergenia – Dragonfly Sakura Pig Squeak
With intense pink flowers nearly 4 times as large as other Bergenia, Sakura Pig Squeak, Bergenia, demands all attention. Even at a distance its luminescent flowers stand out. Sakura Pig Squeak’s individual flowers range from light pink to medium pink, with deep pink veining. Sakura Pig Squeak’s magnificent flowers lighten with age. It features large rosettes of leathery, oval, cabbage-like leaves that form a thick, slowly-spreading clump of glossy evergreen foliage. Its foliage grows to 8″ tall. Its large panicles appear on 16″ tall stout stalks in spring.
Like all Bergenia, Sakura’s leaves and flowers are wonderful in floral arrangements. Sakura is the Japanese word for Cherry Blossoms. Its thick evergreen leaves turn deep purple to black in winter. Bergenia is a reliable evergreen perennial that are deer and rabbit resistant. It thrives in shade and creates a lush landscape. Bergenia makes a gorgeous groundcover.
Growing instructions: Plant in shade to part shade in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. It prefers rich, moist soil.
