Antennaria plantaginifolia Pussytoes
Grown in the garden for its fuzzy silvery-green foliage, the Missouri native plant Pussytoes, Antennaria plantaginifolia, grows into a dense mat forming ground cover that thrives in dry, poor soils. In spring small white flowers that remind people of cats paws bloom on tall stems.
Pussytoes, sometimes also called Mouse Ears is the host plant for the American Painted Lady butterfly, meaning their caterpillars exclusively eat Pussytoes.
Plant in full sun. Plant does not do well in rich soil. Plant in gritty rocky soil that drains well.
