Allium Red Giant Ornamental Onion – 5 Bulbs
Sure to be the talk of the garden, Red Giant Ornamental Onion, Allium, brings high style and living art with its perfectly formed 5″ globes of lavender star-shaped florets and remarkable strappy foliage. Its bold color and form brings considerable interest to landscapes and containers. Very easy to grow and multiplies if given a good home.
Its long blooming flower clusters create memorable flower arrangements. The round orbs dry on plants and last for months both on the plant, or cut as interesting dried flowers. Dried flower heads can be sprayed shimmering gold or silver to create beautiful accents for holiday arrangements. Flowers appear in late spring to early summer.
Red Giant’s low growing, strappy foliage mixes easily with other plants. It attracts butterflies and other flying beauties, yet deer keep their distance. In the garden, the vase, as a dried flower or a shiny holiday decoration, Ornamental Onions delight us in so many ways.
Plant new bulbs 6″ deep, 3 times bulb diameter and 12″ apart. Bulbs may be divided in late summer through early fall after foliage has died down. Let foliage die down naturally, the foliage is creating food for the bulb for next year’s blossoms.
Fun tip: Dried flower heads left in the garden or cut for arrangements can be spray-painted for artsy, colorful displays. Try spaying yours purple or red in the garden, or gold for a sparkly addition to your holiday arrangements.
Bulbs will be available for pickup in the beginning of September. As soon as we receive your roots, we will contact you for a pickup date and time for your preorder.
