Polystichum polyblepharum, Tassel Fern

Polystichum polyblepharum, Tassel Fern

Glossy evergreen, forest green fronds make Tassel Fern, Polystichum polyblepharum, a top choice for shade gardens. Native to Japan and southern Korea, it grows in a elegant outward-spreading vase-shaped clump 2′ tall and wide. As the newly emerging fronds unfurl, parts flip over backwards to form tassels, hence the common name.

An excellent choice for shaded areas including borders, woodland gardens, wild gardens and around foundations. Easy to grow.

For best results plant in soil that has been amended with organic matter. Keep well watered in dry periods. Deer and rabbit resistant.
