Blackberry Baby Cakes – Bushel and Berry

A sweet little, thornless blackberry, Baby Cakes Blackberry is perfect for patio pots with its compact habit. In spring and early summer bright white flowers appear, followed in summer and fall with large, sweet berries present on the plant in a fireworks-like spray of fruit. Perfect for families with kids or pets as it has no thorns. The kids will adore harvesting healthy, organic food right in their own yard. No staking needed. You can expect a delicious crop in summer, then again in fall.

Fantastic in containers, in the veggie garden, as a small decorative shrub, or in mass plantings. Whether you have an urban balcony or a country estate, you can savor the experience of fresh raspberries from your very own plants.

Baby Cakes Blackberry is a member of the outstanding Bushel and Barrel series.

Growing Instructions

Plant in full sun, in soil with good drainage. Fertilize in early spring with balanced liquid fertilizer. Water thoroughly when dry. If leaves begin to yellow or droop in summer apply a balanced liquid fertilizer and water well. This dwarf blackberry produces abundant new canes each spring and fruits on two year old canes. In early spring, you should start to see new green sprouts coming up from both soil and on some of the canes. New sprouts from the ground will become canes that fruit next year. Leave all the new shoots from the ground and old canes that have green leaves emerging. Cut all the dead canes with no new growth at ground level. Plants can be grown in containers or in the ground. In the ground plant in areas where plants can spread to 3′ wide. .
