The best plants and shrubs for privacy
Our top eight picks for maximum screening power

We've heard lots of interesting stories over the years from customers who have views from their yard that they'd like to screen -- from junk cars on cement blocks to annoying neighborhood children. Shrubs, grasses, and even tall perennials can be used to screen undesirable objects and enhance your enjoyment of your backyard, deck, and views from inside your house.

Here's a list of our top eight grasses, shrubs, and trees for privacy and screening.

Blooming wisteria
25% off

Some wisteria can take 10 years or longer to bloom -- not so with 'Amethyst Falls.' We've got a nice selection of wisteria in full bloom -- perfect for a large trellis, pergola, or empty fence that gets lots of sun.

It's also deer- and drought-tolerant, and can top out at 40' feet in length.  Puts on a big show in the spring, then blooms sporadically for the rest of the summer until frost.

Our 5-gallon container was $34.99 -- is now $26.25.

Introducing Sugar Creek Gardens' annual stimulus package

Annual plants are priced to save you money and stimulate the economy. One flat (36 plants) normally $19.99, now $12.99.  Four days only -- starting Friday, May 1, through Monday, May 4.

Includes impatiens, begonias, salvias, marigolds, cosmos, and more.

Limit four flats per customer.

The hummingbirds have arrived! Want tips on which annuals, perennials, shrubs, and vines attract the most hummingbirds?  Look here.

Our gardening guide also includes information on how to make your own hummingbird food.

Kim's favorite hummingbird attractors: cardinal vine and Mexican petunia.

Got deer?

You don't have to live west of 270 to be plagued by deer. Jean and I live in Webster Groves and have seen deer in our neighborhood -- bold as brass!

We carry a new product that Sally has had good luck with -- Sweeney's All Season Weatherproof Deer Repellent. Unobtrusive cylinders hold a safe, non-toxic deer repellent (100% blood) that is odorless to humans, but triggers a flight response in deer. The cylinders are hung by stakes next to individual plants or to create a perimeter. A 6-pack of cylinders and stakes costs $25.99. Apply only once -- no need for reapplication!

The world's most popular rose: New Dawn

The standard by which all repeat flowering climbers are judged. In 1997, 'New Dawn' was voted the most popular rose in the world at the 11th World Convention of Rose Societies. Silvery, blush-pink, medium sized, double flowers with nice form are produced in profusion on a great plant. Grows 12-18 feet.

Available at Sugar Creek Gardens in different sizes --
$26.99 - $38.99.
